Taste wine from a tobacco farm
Couples and groups alike will enjoy a trip to Rock of Ages Winery & Vineyard near Durham. The two-story manor on the property used for wine production and tastings also serves as a popular event venue, hosting a number of weddings each year. The land that once produced Communion wine for area churches in the early 1900s later became the Moore family estate and was used for generations to grow tobacco. Now, 26 acres of vines produce 17 varieties of North Carolina’s native muscadine and European-style vinifera grapes, providing a picturesque backdrop for an afternoon picnic. You won’t want to leave without tasting the specialty Cork & Pork wine made for pairing with barbeque. The winery even hosts an annual Cork-N-Pork Festival in the spring to feature the wine and an original sauce recipe.
